"M"- Next OS for your Android Mobile

Recently Google senior VP of Products Sundar Pichai, has launched Android-M developer preview at Google I/O 2015 conference in San Francisco, saying that the company had "gone back to basics" with new version of android. He further added,"while Android Lollipop introduced a new visual exquisite, Android-M brings some much-needed stability and usability improvements".

M for "MilkShake", "Milky Way" or "Marshmallow" ?
As it's not yet known whether Android-M will be simply a point upgrade to Android 5.1 or Android 6.0, there is also quite unclear about "M" extension. Followed by Android Alpha & Beta, Google has always named the OS updates after sweet treats and in alphabetical order. So we know M will be next and it will be something tasty, either "MilkShake" or "Marshmallow". (Any other Suggestions? Comment Below.)

What'll be new in "M"
At I/O, Google VP of Engineering David Burke outlined six major Android M features.

1. Web Experience
To provide a better user experience when interacting with websites and apps, Google has been exploring "trends in the web content" is consumed, and in the context "Chrome Custom Tabs" is introduced in Android-M.

The new feature will allow apps to open a customized Chrome window on the top of the active app, instead of launching the Chrome app separately. This will provide faster user-experience when navigating between apps and the web. "Chrome Custom Tabs" support automatic sign-in, saved passwords, autofill and a multi-process security to assist the integration of the app and web experience.

2. App Permission
As had previously been speculated, app permission have been rejuvenated and simplified in Android M, with user will able to choose to accept or deny individual permissions. Permission will be requested when user will try to use any feature first time, but not at the point of installation.

User can view permissions by type and see which apps have that permission granted. One can modify the permissions granted to apps at any time in app settings. This way Android M will give user greater control of the information apps with complete control over their Android.

3. Fingerprint Support
Google will "standardize support" for fingerprint scanners on phone running Android M. The new functionality will allow fingerprint scanners to be used not only to unlock phones, but for shopping or within Play Store apps.

Of course the phone device will need a hardware fingerprint scanner to begin with, but Google's full support, we expect to see these appear on many more devices in the future.

4. App Links
With present versions of Android, every time a user selects any web-link from somewhere, OS confuses in whether to open the link in a web-browser, or with some other app that clams support for the link and so it opens a "Open With" dialog box. User might be asked if they want to open a link with YouTube, or with Chrome, for example.

App links are being changed in Android-M so that OS has grater awareness of which apps can open content directly, instead of stopping users every time with the dialog box. This is almost a blink-and-you'll-miss-it improvement.

5. Mobile Payments
"Android Pay" is Google's new mobile payment system designed to make the checkout process easer and faster. Google is aiming to provide "Simple, secure and user's choice," allowing user to use their ATM cards for the payments on purchasing in any shopping store.

Compatible with any device housing NFC capabilities(and running 4.4 KitKat or above), the App platform being supported by American Express, Visa, Mastercard and Discover as well as carriers such as AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile.

6. Power and Charging

With It's new function, Android-M improves device standby time. By using motion detectors, OS will recognize when devices have't been interacted with for a while, such as when a person is asleep or a device has been left on a table, to reduce background process. Using it with a device running on Android M preview, Google learned that OS will provide twice longer standby time.

Android M also supports USB Type-C which provides faster charging, and lets user charge other devices with their phone.
