MS Edge: Second inning of Microsoft

Whenever we read the word "Spartan" it reminds us the famous movie which tells the story of fight for survival and existence on world map. More or less in the same way, Microsoft is trying to regain its market share in web browsing by launching its brand new browser "MS Edge" codenamed "Spartan" as it is facing tough competition with popular browsers like "Google Chrome" and "Mozilla Firefox"  with its 20 years old browser "Internet Explorer".

Spartan is a single browser app designed to work across PCs, tablets and phones. It will also look and feel similar across all devices. It will be available on Microsoft’s Windows Store as a way for the company to simplify the update process for the browser. The desktop version of the app will be offered separately from mobile versions.

What Inside Project Spartan:

Designed for Windows 10, Spartan provides a more interoperable, reliable, and discoverable experience with advanced features including the ability to remark on web pages, a distraction-free reading experience, and integration of Cortana for finding and doing things online faster.

As reported by TheVerge, the senior engineer at Microsoft’s web platform team, The new Microsoft browser is going to be powered by a new rendering engineEdgeHTML.dll. Windows 10 already has it integrated, and it will be separate from Trident (MSHTML.dll) that powered Internet Explorer for decades.

Features of Project Spartan that make it unique:
Features that include in Project Spartan is not found in rival browsers. Most prominent one is new inking support that allows users to remark a web page and send the notes and annotations to their friends and colleague and wave note will be supported by Microsoft’s OneDrive cloud storage. Means that notes will be stored on a copy of a web page that can be accessed by any browser across multiple platforms. As annotations are shared, multiple users can doodle on a web page and share edits and annotations between groups.

A second major feature for Spartan will be the integration of Microsoft’s Cortana digital assistant. Microsoft is planning to use Cortana to surface information on flights, hotel bookings, package tracking, and other data within the traditional address bar.

Other features include a new way to group tabs together to de-clutter the occasionally messy interface of multiple browser tabs. Spartan will allow users to group tabs however they want, making it easier, for example, to split up personal tabs from work ones.

The objective is to keep the design as lightweight as possible, which users familiar with the older versions of Internet Explorer may easily distinguish. One thing that should be noted is that Spartan is not designed to replace IE. The latter will remain an option for Windows 10 users who want to use it on their PCs and desktops.

Now only time can say that "MS Edge" will really enable Microsoft to mark its hard presence in market.
